No longer will you be called Forsaken, nor your land named Desolate; but you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the LORD will take delight in you, and your land will be His bride.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
In ancient Hebrew culture, a person's name represented their true legal status, character, and destiny. During war, cruel empires like Assyria and Babylon crushed small nations that were routinely invaded, depopulated, and left geographically desolate (Azubah) without military defense or economic trade. Victorious armies burned cities to ash, tore down protective walls, and dragged families away into slavery. A defeated, empty city was labeled Azubah—which means "Forsaken"—to mark its public shame and total abandonment.
In ancient law, an abandoned wife had zero rights, no family protection, and no way to survive. Victorious armies burned cities, tore down protective walls, and dragged populations away into captivity. A defeated, empty city was labeled Azubah ("Forsaken") to mark public shame and total abandonment.
But God steps directly into this devastation with an explosive, game-changing decree.
God refuses to leave His people trapped under shame, abuse, or legal bankruptcy. He tears away public labels of disgrace. Instead, He gives two permanent, royal titles: Hephzibah ("My Delight Is in Her") and Beulah ("Married").
In biblical law, this public renaming completely restores legal rights and inheritance. The living God binds Himself directly as a fierce protector. He transforms defenseless outcasts into a deeply cherished, secure family. You are no longer abandoned.

Do you feel "forsaken" or "desolate"? Maybe broken, abandoned or like your life is a waste?
I did.
I used to live my life by how I felt, and I never felt "victorious" or "free." But while feelings can accompany freedom, victory is not a feeling. Satan wants to trap you in your emotions - and let you suffocate there.
As a survivor of extreme abuse, I hit a breaking point. I prayed to God and said, "Either Your Word is true, or it is not." I chose to believe. At the time, belief was all I had left—but it was enough.
I'd like to share a dream with you that I had about 5-6 years ago. My sister and I were in a deep, round, dirt pit. We were both filthy from trying to climb our way out. The walls were muddy and we had given up. I sat down in total defeat. I heard some russling at the top and looked up. It was Jesus! He lay on his belly, with his head and shoulders showing (from my view) over the top of the pit. He reached down... as far as He could - stretching with His whole body - reaching for me. He said, "Grab my hand" I stood up quick and reached my hand up as high as I could, but it seemed a chasm between us. There was absolutely no way he was going to reach me and vise versa. He kept saying, "Come up higher.... come up higher." He kept repeating that over and over, "Come up higher". In my mind (in the dream), I thought 'are you crazy' - 'why can't you do the stretch-armstrong thing?' My dream ended. I was confused as to why He didn't save me. Later that day, I relayed the dream to a close friend, explaining that I didn't understand. She said, "Brenda, Jesus is the Word. Grab onto the Word." I was floored. But, I did just that. I had an old compilation of about 30 scriptures from about 15 years ago, "Who I am in Christ". I got that sheet out - and my Bible - and dug in. I dug in hard. My life was falling apart - with so much brokenness. I had no other choice. It was either God or other alternatives the world provides. So, I ask again, Do you feel "forsaken" or "desolate"? Abondoned, afraid, or rejected? I have 3 words for you....
COME UP HIGHER!
Friend, grab onto the Word! You are no longer rejected, abandoned, unwanted, worthless or forgotten! Isaiah 62:4 proves that God officially changes your identity! Those "feelings" and "states of being" that have you trapped are LIES. God calls you His delight and claims you as His own! This, my friend, is a GAME CHANGER. Your worth is locked in, no matter what. Instead of trying to earn approval, you can walk this life’s journey with your head held high, knowing the Creator of the universe genuinely “takes delight” in YOU.
